Luanda, Angola, 24 August 2026 – On the margins of his retirement in Luanda, Republic of Angola, 20-24 August 2026, a delegation of Ambassadors to the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREP) of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), led by the Vice-President of the ECCAS Commission, Her Excellency Mariam Mahamat Nour, made a working visit to the Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Central Africa (CEREEAC), which is based in Luanda.
This visit is part of COREP's exchanges on the functioning of Community bodies and institutions and on the main issues of regional integration.
The delegation was welcomed by the Technical Officer of CEREEAC Mr Landa Shibamba João, representing the Acting Executive Director Mr Désiré NDEMAZAGOA BACKOTTA.
It was imbued with the state of the Centre's infrastructure and workspaces, meetings and training.
Two presentations were then made. The first focused on the process of establishing and operationalizing CEREEAC, the ECCAS specialized agency responsible for promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency in Central Africa.
The second was the presentation by consultant Georgette FumTchum of the main initiatives under way in the field of sustainable energy. These initiatives contribute in particular to the implementation of Agenda 2063 of the African Union and of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 9 and 13.
The exchanges also presented the main constraints related to the operationalization of the Centre, including the lack of financial and human resources, as well as the priority prospects: institutional strengthening of CEREEAC, organization in Luanda of the first Central Africa Renewable Energy Forum in 2027, development of regional renewable energy and energy efficiency policies, and increased mobilization of technical and financial partners.
At the end of the visit, the members of COREP welcomed the efforts made by CEREEAC despite the difficulties encountered and reiterated their support for its operationalization and the mobilization of the resources necessary to carry out its tasks.
This visit confirms the strategic importance of CEREEAC as a regional instrument for promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency and the energy transition in Central Africa.
